RFI Engineering Finalizes European Pilot with G-router units and
Receives Order from Large Global Telecom Provider
Amsterdam, March 11, 2009
RFI Engineering, a leading manufacturer of cellular M2M products
and applications, today announced that it has successfully
completed a European-wide pilot, after extensive field testing
of its M2M wireless product: the G-router.
Over hundred G-routers have been deployed in various European
countries, enabling the provider to monitor and manage the
equipment, installed on customer premises. The global operator
is realizing considerable economic benefits and higher
availability of the services rendered to their corporate customers through
the deployment of the G-router. RFI Engineering has received the
first of an expected series of follow up orders, for a large
scale roll out across the entire global network.
RFI Engineering' customer for this global contract is considered
one of the world's largest global operators in providing all-in
service: telephone, data, internet, workplace management to a
large selection of the "Fortune 500" companies, leveraging the
international presence of the company with local expertise.
Services such as internet and email are nowadays crucial for the
everyday operation of the corporate customers. The SLA (Service
Level Agreement) will therefore specify availability (uptime) of
these services of more than 99,99%. A malfunction in the
gateway to the customer's network, i.e. the modem, is a
significant disturbance, severely impacting the SLA level.
The G-router monitors "managed" customer routers/modems via GPRS,
providing an instantly available and redundant link for
maintenance and support purposes. The G-router also provides an
optional "remote reboot" function: by control over a Remote
Power Switch -designed by RFI Engineering as a special feature-
the modem can be switched on and off.
"We are pleased that we could come up with the G-router as the
best technical solution for our customer," says Peter Calis, CEO
of RFI Engineering. "The G-router, the best 24/7 watchdog,
couples availability through the integrated GPRS and Quad band
GSM functionality with the flexibility of the Linux operating
system."
